Bucharest coffee

Bucharest had a huge shift in the way people consume coffee and went from cheap, home-made coffee to proper espresso and specialty coffee. There are over 400 coffee shops in Bucharest, from which about a fourth are specialty coffee shops.

Locals are big fans of specialty coffee and there’s an entire industry around selecting the best beans, roasting and preparing it.

We’ve made a list of those we like most, note that this is a fully subjective list and you should definitely go explore this a bit if you are a fan.

Origo

This brand is one of the first specialty coffee shops around and they focused a lot on roasting their beans and blend it in a unique way.

You should definitely visit their location around the old town. It’s a nice, quiet area contrasting the party area that’s nearby.

Sloane

Located in one of the busiest areas in Bucharest, this tiny place is also serves their unique blends and provide their coffee to many maore coffee shops around the country.

During weekends, you can enjoy your coffee around the busy Calea Victoriei (Victory Way) that is open to pedestrian traffic only (usually May to September).

Boiler

Also one of the pioneers of specialty coffee in Bucharest, Boiler evolved a small chain, blending different concepts into each of their locations around the city.

We do like the one on Calea Victoriei (not far from Sloane), with a tiny terrace and located in a beautiful old building.

Two by Two Espresso bar

Besides the great coffee and really nice equipment used for brewing the best espresso, the house and terrace are a must see in Bucharest.

Situated on a side street, the house is a beautiful example of architecture from the late 19th century, mixed with a modern terrace in the front-yard.

Coftale

Also one of the oldest specialty coffee shops in Bucharest, we love the old house they are in and the courtyard is perfect for the hot summer days.

Also wander through the neighbourhood, it’s a very nice area of the cist that is rarely explored by tourists.
